W E B _ S I T E
This installation took the form of an interactive store-front where users would sit down and figure out how to manage the features of the real-life internet browser. Web Site came complete with preference features, toolbars, the ability to make your own webpage, a search engine, a weather page, cookies, bookmarks, a store, popup ads and more.
First time users would be patted down by the firewall and asked to fill out an extensive application including age, weight, cc#, etc. that would be filed by me, the browser. I recorded every step taken so users could review their history. Cookies were eaten throughout the entire performance.
By taking a digital system and converting it into a physical environment a puzzle was created for the user. They were somewhat familiar with how to interact with Web Site from past experiences using IE/ Firefox/ Safari. The longer they observed other users, the more comfortable and accessible the interaction became.
A BIG thank you to Chris Medberry who acted as security and firewall during the performances.
