I have been spending a lot of time at Fe Gallery on Butler Street over the past few days, working on a wall sized drawing. It will be part of a group show called "Leaving My Mark" where ten artists get to work directly on the walls of the space. It is so liberating to be able to draw at such a large scale! The opening is on Friday, August 27th from 7 - 9. The show will stay up until October 9th.

Featuring works by: Steven Boksenbaum / Lorin Boksenbaum / Marc Burgess / Seth Clark / Lex Covato / Doug Kinsey / Deanna Mance / Meghan Olson / Suzie Sparks / Thomas M. Weprich / Curated by Jill Larson

The photography of Yves Marchand & Romain Meffre was recently brought to my attention. They have done a series on Detroit's state of decay, something I have also been studying and trying to capture through my abandoned series. Their site is definitely worth a visit:

On the same note, Kevin Bauman's series of 100 Abandoned Houses in Detroit has been a huge inspiration. Some of my house portraits are drawn directly from his photographs. One day I would love to have a joint exhibition with him. Take a look at his work here:

Melissa just opened her new online store: J A M S N A T I O N.

"Jamsnation was started in 2009 to showcase selected artists’ handmade work, as well as objects that they have artfully assembled and collected during the creative process. By displaying artifacts of inspiration and thought-process alongside completed work, the shop provides a wider, more accessible view than is ordinarily found in a portfolio or gallery."

A lot of Melissa's new work is featured on the site. My blocks are also available for purchase!

MONTHS have gone by since my last update. I apologize. Let me catch you up:

I spent the summer in Deerfield Massachusetts with about 200, 11-17 year olds at the beloved Deerfield Academy Summer Arts Camp. It was my third year working as a drawing instructor. The staff is brilliant and the energy that you leave DASAC with is unbelievable.

I am currently in a show called RE:Premier at McJunkin Gallery in Charleston, West Virginia. A big thank you to Megan Page Bullock for introducing me to the show! I am most excited to exhibit my set of blocks for the first time here!

Melissa and I are currently working on things for a show we are having in South Bend, Indiana. It is called Post Game Showing and will be a private, home-viewing of a lot of the work we have been producing in Pittsburgh.

melissa, travis and I are in pittsburgh, pennsylvania. we moved into a house in the bloomfield area, they call it pittsburgh's little italy. we live right next to liberty avenue, a main road filled with really good food, and everything else we need. pittsburgh is filled with row houses, giant industrial buildings, abondoned factories, elegant churches... enough windows and walls to explore for a long time. the city is split up into different neighborhoods, each has its own character, and town center. there are good museums, crazy sports fans, an energetic art community and loads of galleries to exhibit in. we'd like you to visit, there is a funton with your name on it. just give us a call first! a few pictures are posted to the left & more will come soon.
